On-Line Analytical Processing (OLAP)  - a software that provides memory-based structured data, allowing complex analysis across dimensions (for example : time, geography, and customer). This kind of analysis is often referred to as “slicing and dicing” data, and this kind of data structure often uses the “cube” as a metaphor, given it’s multi-dimensional nature. An example of such multi-dimensional analysis would be a report of dollar sales by geography, year, sales representative and product. This report would represent a single fact (“dollar sales”) and four dimensions.
